PREETI × GAJENDRATHE VIDEHA LITERARY ATLAS

CRITICAL-APPRECIATION CHAPTER · G10

On Gajendra Thakur’s Maithili-English, English-Maithili, and English-Maithili Computer Dictionaries

Uday Narayan Singh ‘Nachiketa’

Detailed description

Singh situates the dictionaries within lexicographic practice and the changing needs of Maithili speakers. Questions of audience, entry selection, pronunciation, regional vocabulary and technical terminology matter more than simply accumulating words. His discussion connects usable reference design with multilingual life and contemporary knowledge. The dictionaries emerge as tools that require explicit editorial choices and continuing development, with the joint contributors’ labor acknowledged.

This is a signed contribution in the volume’s Gajendra Thakur, Videha and the wider literary-digital project strand. The page preserves the contributor’s attribution, the normalized chapter identity, the English-edition locator, and the paired Maithili/English repository manifestations so that the critical argument can be read in its book context rather than as an isolated quotation.

Source note. The article records an earlier Videha WordPress publication dated 19 July 2009. Joint dictionary work includes Nagendra Kumar Jha and Panjikar Vidyanand Jha.
