Jha welcomes the jointly edited Panji volumes while testing their genealogical readings against other records. Comparisons of Mandar lineages expose variant names, missing generations and uncertain identifications; a proposed reconciliation remains provisional. He asks for better indexes of ancestral villages and branches and further research on royal genealogies. The essay demonstrates why making manuscripts available and establishing a reliable lineage are different scholarly tasks.
