PREETI × GAJENDRATHE VIDEHA LITERARY ATLAS

CRITICAL-APPRECIATION CHAPTER · G23

Story Penetrating to the Layer of Social Inequality

Abha Jha

Detailed description

Abha Jha reads Parvat Upar Bhamara Je Sutal through property, widowhood, caste, migration, disability and institutional injustice. Contrasts with Premchand and discussion of individual stories identify different ways of exposing social relations. Her praise of intellectual range remains qualified: dense reasoning and classical references can obstruct narrative interest and flow. She treats the English self-translations as an attempt to reach beyond Maithili readers, without making that outreach the sole measure of the work.

This is a signed contribution in the volume’s Gajendra Thakur, Videha and the wider literary-digital project strand. The page preserves the contributor’s attribution, the normalized chapter identity, the English-edition locator, and the paired Maithili/English repository manifestations so that the critical argument can be read in its book context rather than as an isolated quotation.
