Detailed description
Singh examines children’s poems through curiosity, family affection, school, holidays, play and the unequal circumstances of childhood. His examples place delight alongside hunger and child labor. He values a flexible vocabulary that accommodates everyday international words without losing rural Maithili expression. The essay’s account of child psychology is a literary interpretation supported by selected poems, rather than an empirical study of young readers.
