Kumar treats the two picture-story collections as a way of preserving narratives previously held in communal memory. He compares visual storytelling with the supplementary work of colour, sound and light in theatre, and emphasizes that images can communicate even before children recognize letters. His central concern is the enrichment of an underdeveloped area of Maithili publishing.
