Jha defines editing as mentorship rather than selection alone. Drawing on her own beginnings and the experiences of other writers, she describes encouragement, suggested reading, criticism and help with genre and craft. Her central demand is that guidance strengthen a writer’s distinct voice while building a new generation of contributors and connecting their abilities with readers’ expectations.
