The book and its concerns

The title material identifies 591 ghazals—458 general and 133 teenage ghazals—alongside one kata and two rubai. These are the source edition’s declared counts. Its alphabetical index offers a second route through a large collection, allowing a reader to approach a title without treating sequence as the only organising principle.

In a sampled passage, crossing a bridge becomes a moment in which speed, the river and inward pain meet: movement between banks also invites reflection on moving through life. The closing verse asks the reader to examine a claim’s basis, compare sources and resist mistaking repetition for truth. Doubt is paired with reasons rather than indiscriminate rejection. These two samples show how lyric attention and habits of public judgement can share the collection without making every ghazal an illustration of the same theme.
