The child is allowed to make a claim

The sampled wishes ask for freedom to speak, a role for children in the world's development, and more time alone. Names and ages accompany these voices. The collection therefore gives childhood more than a decorative position: children articulate public and private desires in their own attributed statements.

Its critical strength lies in the differences among those wishes. Political agency and solitude need not be folded into one uplifting slogan. Translation has the responsibility of preserving the directness of each voice without making every child sound like the same adult advocate. The images add another interpretation, so the reader can compare the stated wish with its visual framing.
