The reader learns through alternatives
The sampled discussions turn on competing accounts of cognition, exclusion and the self. Their interest lies in the branching structure of the reasoning: a proposed explanation must survive several alternatives, rather than merely receive an authoritative assertion. The English explanatory material also makes that structure available for comparison across languages.
Such a translation can serve readers well when technical terms and transitions remain stable across long arguments. It becomes harder to use if the reader loses track of whether a passage states an opponent's position or the reply to it. The source discussion's caution about checking electronic texts against critical editions is therefore methodologically valuable. This note assesses the visible pedagogical structure, not whether the edition conclusively resolves the philosophical dispute or reproduces every Sanskrit nuance.
A QUESTION TO CARRY BACK
Which alternative is being rejected in a passage, and what assumption makes that rejection possible?
