Silence is part of the script

The guide's opening treats radio drama through voice, sound, music and silence, rather than as a stage play with its pictures removed. Its practical cue-sheet format records the source, opening words, duration and status of a sound. That movement from imagination to an organised production document is the guide's clearest strength: it gives an audible idea a form collaborators can use.

A cue sheet cannot itself establish dramatic force. The next critical step is rehearsal: does a sound disclose a space, interrupt an expectation, or merely repeat what dialogue already explains? The guide is best approached as a working resource whose claims can be tested in a short recording. This note is based on selected written sections and does not assess a finished audio production or establish that all exercises work equally well for beginners.
