Equivalent words do not guarantee equivalent uses
The sampled entry cluster around dull crosses several senses, from brightness to mental judgement; the music-related material likewise moves among composition, events and associated vocabulary. Such groupings show why a thesaurus can be useful to a translator: it offers a field of possible choices rather than one compulsory replacement.
The same breadth makes sense discrimination essential. A reader needs to distinguish an everyday expression, a technical term and a figurative use before choosing among them. The extracted samples also contain irregular tokens, but extraction alone cannot establish whether these occur visibly in the book; they should trigger a check, not an accusation of printed error. This assessment concerns sampled lexical organisation, not a comprehensive verification of the thousands of pages. Use the resource to generate candidates, then test them within a sentence and a suitable register.
A QUESTION TO CARRY BACK
Which candidate preserves the sense of the original sentence, rather than merely belonging to the same broad topic?
