Across the sampled passages, translation brings intimate experiences into the same collection: restrictions on a girl's laughter, a mother's morning labour, and a cloth whose treatment changes with its social meaning. These scenes invite attention to how dignity is distributed through ordinary gestures. Their force depends on concrete situations, not simply on an announced message of sympathy.

This is a collected translation volume, so the original authors' work must remain distinct from Gajendra Thakur's role as translator and editor. Its variety is an asset when the reader can recover the source language, original author and route of each translation. Without that information, an anthology can make diverse voices appear to share a single origin. The critical question is how the target language preserves differences in register, social position and narrative distance across the collection; the sampled passages suggest productive comparisons, not a complete judgement of translation fidelity.
