An archive begins to interpret itself
The sampled studies move across authors and forms, including competing ways of describing realism and an account of poetry, interview and memoir as historical documentation. This makes the collection more than a contents list: it proposes relations among works already gathered in the Videha Sadeha archive.
That act of interpretation can give a scattered body of writing a usable shape. It also places the critic close to the institution whose selections are being evaluated. Readers should therefore distinguish an argument supported by a passage from an assertion about the archive's importance. Editorial involvement does not invalidate criticism, but it makes the critic's position relevant. The most productive reading asks what the archive's own categories reveal, what they leave outside, and whether an individual work resists the framework applied to it.
A QUESTION TO CARRY BACK
Does the critical category help a particular work become more distinct, or mainly confirm the coherence of the collection?
