Preservation makes a source available, not self-explanatory
Videha credits Preeti Thakur with compiling, scanning and cataloguing the original Tirhuta palm-leaf Panji records. This is an archival contribution, so the appropriate critical question differs from that for an authored story. The work makes records available for later reading; its achievement depends on maintaining the relationship between a digital image and the material record it represents.
Availability alone cannot resolve transcription, dating or the social limits of the record. A useful catalogue needs stable identifiers and enough provenance to support comparison, while researchers must distinguish what a manuscript states from what they infer.
